Violence against women and girls is rooted in gender-based discrimination and social norms and gender stereotypes that perpetuate such violence.

Given the devastating effect violence has on women, efforts have mainly focused on responses and services for survivors.Prevention should start early in life, by educating and working with young boys and girls promoting respectful relationships and gender equality.¬†Through the advocacy work of Gannaane Org with the government of Jubaland, alongside other actors in the Human Rights and Democracy sector, there can be a positive gradual response to respect for people’s rights, democratic space growth and establishment of legal frameworks that promotes respect to human dignity, identity, basic rights access to all fundamental issues regardless of gender disparity.
