Our Background
Gannaane organization was founded in Helsinki, Finland in 2002 by the Somali diaspora professionals and was consequently registered in Finland as a non-governmental organization which is non-profit and nonreligious prior to moving the operations to Somalia later in 2004.
The name Gannaane is attributed to the Juba River in Jubbaland state where most of the founder members originated from. Gannaane Organization operates presently in southern and Central Somalia, especially in Jubbaland, Southwest and Galmudug and Hirshabelle states. It also operates in Finland as a local non-governmental organization. The initial primary objective of Gannaane organization was to unify the Somali diaspora community and rally them to support development and participation in building of Somalia as a nation. The organization recognized the need for active involvement of Somalis in rehabilitating and restoring key sectors in education, health (Including Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH)), WASH, nutrition and livelihood. To this day in Somalia, Gannaane organization is among top active players in implementing humanitarian projects bordering on the thematic areas mentioned above. Present activity area in Somalia

Transparency and Accountability
Transparency and accountability are encompassed in our core values are hallmarks of our programs and operations, and GANNAANE has worked with independent auditors since its inception. Apart from audits, GANNAANE-Somalia has also passed various capacity assessments of its processes and systems intended for profiling, pre-awards, and micro- assessments.
GANNAANE is keen on continuous systems strengthening to ensure that all operations are above board, respond to emerging development, and meet the accountability demands of donors, authorities, and other stakeholders.
